When I pioneered makeup artist shows 1997, I chose to welcome the public to join us to bring more awareness of talented artists. Due to this, there are several wonderful artists working in our industry today that began as a teenager at IMATS. The last few years the number of teenagers has greatly increased at the shows. Unfortunately the majority of these new wave of young people appear to have little interest in the core values of IMATS and our mission to celebrate makeup artistry.
We launched our Make-Up Artist Pro Card program three years ago so that we could properly identify who are profession artists. The Friday Pro events this year at IMATS LA and NYC have shown us that the program has finally matured to the point that we can now take steps to balance the demographic of the show.
Therefore we have decided that from this point forward, no one under the age of 17 will be allowed to attend IMATS except as a guest of a Gold or Platinum Make-Up Artist Card member. Also there will be less general admission tickets available and more allotted to our Pro Card members. "Meet and greets" in exhibitor booths will only be allowed with Gold or Platinum Pro Card Members. None of which will be allowed to block isles and other booths.
What you see in the pages of Make-Up Artist magazine represents my heart for our craft. It's also my vision for IMATS. I believe this change is best for the show and allow us to keep the focus on bringing you great educators and fantastic brands as we have for the past 17 years.
Thank you for being patient with us during these growing pains. IMATS NYC was my 48th show celebrating the art. We will do whatever it takes to keep the main thing, the main thing. You have my word on it. IMATS will continue to be the International Makeup Artist Trade Show.
